HOME: MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND IN YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
Sunday, May 30, 2010 at 7:44PM
You know I am a proponent of traveling to your national parks. But do you all have to visit on the same weekend? And if you must visit on a holiday weekend, do you really want to spend your time in the car?

These are scenes from the loop road in Yosemite Valley on Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend 2010. Doesn't it look like fun?

The two shuttle buses stuck in traffic were nearly empty of riders. How many less vehicles would we see in this photo if the FREE hybrid shuttle buses were filled with riders? The bike paths were filled with people because they were forced out of their cars due to gridlock.

This guy probably drove for hours to become stuck in a traffic jam in a national park with the gas grill he toted from home lashed to the back of his SUV. Some years ago I read a statistic that there are 9000 people staying in Yosemite Valley on a typical summer night. The Valley is approximately one mile wide and seven miles long and an infinitesimal percentage of the nearly 1200 square miles of land designated Yosemite National Park.

Hmmm. Don't miss THAT one bit!
We were right there in the long lines... Made < 2 miles in the valley over 3 hours. NOT fun!
